OXIDISED STARCH is versatile in nature and finds application in paper, adhesive and building materials(fabrication of construction materials). starch is oxidized to an optimum level to achieve suitable viscosities and brightness for application on paper surface sizing coating, lamination etc. Various parameters viz. pH, Temp.,Degree of substitution of carboxyl group etc. are cantrolled.
The oxidization treament shortens the chain length of the polymer (native starch) and as a resulting, wide ranges of viscosities are possible. The outstanding characteristic is that the pasting result rapidly at a lower temp. It exhibits a greater degre of fluidity and clarity than that of unmodified starches. The film produced is strongly adherent, continuous and clear as compared to the brittle and opaque film of unmodified starch. There is no set back or rectrogradation.
